The Daily Five

Betty is practicing Read to Self. This means she is reading on her own and practicing strategies for Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary (C.A.F.E.).

Devin and Jesus are practicing Read to Someone. This means they are sitting EEKK (elbow to elbow, knee to knee) and reading to each other with very quiet voices. Jesus checks for understanding when Devin is done with a page, and then they switch jobs.

The students in this picture are practicing Work on Writing. They all have special notebooks where they get to write about whatever they want! This practice should help students with their writing stamina--getting their thoughts on paper before they're lost!

As we continue with our routines, students will also learn to do Word Work and Listen to Reading. Together these options make the Daily 5--activities students do during independent work time!
